Robert E. Lee | Southern Hero of the Civil War

Ladies and Gentlemen, my newest book review is finally here. My book review is about the life of Robert E. Lee, one of the greatest generals in American history. The book was written by Mona Kerby. It is entitled, Robert E. Lee: Southern Hero of the Civil War (Historical American Biographies).

General Lee was a great military hero. As a general in the Confederate army, not one to shy away from controversy, he was no doubt a very strategic and brazen military general. Now let’s get into his life.

General Lee grew up in Virginia and he was a kind and attentive person. He was well-liked and considered to be a handsome man. Some people believed that General Lee got his good looks from his mother, Ann Hill Carter Lee, and a moderately attractive father named Henry Harry Lee. General Lee’s father was also known as “Light Horse Harry.” He and his two brothers Carter and Henry attended West Point Military Academy in New York.

As a young man, General Lee was very disciplined. He was an outstanding student at the academy. He followed all the rules and did well at the academy. There were many rules at the academy. For example, if a student broke a rule at the academy, that student received a demerit. Students who received four or more demerits were dismissed from the academy! General Lee attended West Point Military Academy for four years. He never received a demerit at the academy.

He married a beautiful woman named Mary Curtis. What was interesting about their union was that his wife’s father was the adopted son of George Washington! Cool, huh? Well, I thought so! I chose this book because of its importance to US history. I wanted other readers to know about the real General Lee, especially the personal aspects of his life. I wanted to share this book review with others like myself who love history and the characters who make up the pages of history.

I liked this book because the author was knowledgable about General Lee’s life. The book was very educational, easy to read and enjoyable. What I didn’t like about the book is that… well, I loved everything about the book, all the text! There was nothing that I didn’t like about the book. It was well written. I really loved it. I enjoyed reading about General Lee because he was a great general.
